Rangers earned a crucial 2-0 win over Sparta Prague in their first game under Giovanni van Bronckhorst – and Gers fans have praised Ianis Hagi.
Hagi, 23, was handed a start in a 4-2-3-1 system with Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent also behind Alfredo Morelos in the 2-0 win. Morelos got a brace.
The Colombia international opened the scoring after £19,000-a-week ace (Sport.Ro) Hagi was played in – and he slid in front of a defender.
His pass found Morelos who finished superbly with his first touch. Morelos got a second after a mistake saw him head home, finishing perfectly.
In a slight tweak to the 4-3-3 formation used by Steven Gerrard, Hagi sparkled in the new-look system. He lasted 65 minutes before coming off.
Allan McGregor pulled off a wonderful double save towards the end, and Joe Aribo really should have got his name on the score sheet.
The win sees Rangers climb into second on seven points and with just an away trip to Lyon left – three above Thursday night’s opponents Sparta.
What are Rangers fans saying about Hagi, after Thursday display?
In his 17 games this season, Hagi has only started 12 times – and completed 90 minutes on just three occasions before tonight’s win.
But he will have convinced van Bronckhorst and plenty of Rangers fans with his performance behind Morelos. Especially, with Kent fit again.
Rangers fans have reacted on Twitter to Hagi’s efforts, and many were delighted for the ex-Fiorentina playmaker.
